Zhangjiajie National Forest Park


Zhangjiajie National Forest Park is the first one of its kind in China and it still in young ages of the evolution. In 2004, it was listed into the World Geoparks. The whole park is famous for peculiar landform, stony peaks in strange shapes, lush forests, and animals. There are over 3000 alien peaks, some shaped like humans, some like animals, and some like items. Between the peaks are giant valleys with gurgling streams and lush forests. Besides the splendid landscapes, the park is also a giant natural oxygen bar, making it a wonderful place for resort.

Yellow Stone Village

Yellow Stone Village is the most famous scenic spot in Yellow Stone VillageZhangjiajie National Forest Park. Legend has it Zhang Liang's master Huangshi used to practice alchemy here, hence the name of Huangshi Village. It's a giant platform with an elevation of 1,080m and a great spot to have a bird's-view of the whole Wulingyuan scenic area. Standing on the viewing platform, you will see countless stone peaks and pillars, towering each other and forming a vast peak forest. In a rainy day, you will enjoy a scene of all peaks being covered with white shawls that changes constantly. The world-famous Hallelujah Mountain is located in the Yellow Stone Village.

Yuanjiajie

Located in the northern part of the Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, Yuanjiajie is a pearl of Wulingyuan Scenic Area. According to folklore, after the failure of Huangchao Uprising, people who participated in the revolt were hunted by the Tang government. Yuanjiajie ForestA general with family name of Yuan hid himself in the mountainous areas and named the place as Yuanjiajie. There is no way to investigate the authentication of the story, but Yuanjiajie truly has the best views. Standing on the viewing platform here, thousands of peculiar peaks in different positions are under your eyes.
In Yuanjiajie, you must visit one of the ten great views of Zhangjiajie - the No.1 Bridge in the World. It's a natural stone bridge formed between two mountains. The fact is that those two mountains used to be one integrated mountain. With the weathering and earth movement, the stone in the middle part was weakened and the strange stone bridge we see today was formed. The whole bridge is 2m in width, 4m in depth, over 300m in height, with a span of over 20m, which makes it a natural stone bridge with the highest fall in the world. Another highlight you must try is the Bailong Elevator, a vertical elevator of 326m connecting the mountain from the very bottom to the top. It can save you a lot of time and energy climbing the mountains. However,the ride can be very heart-racing, please consult with your guide before taking the ride.

Golden Whip StreamGolden Whip Stream

Golden Whip Stream is a deep and clear waterway connecting Pipa Stream in the west and running eastward to Suoxi Stream. The whole steam is about 7.5km and it only takes about 1-1.5 hours to cover the sight. It has the most beautiful landscape. Just imagine yourself walking among the tranquil peaks and valleys with clear stream gurgling along, fish playing in the water, flowers and plants booming around, birds singing and monkeys climbing around.

Opening hours: 7:00-18:00
Transportation: If you stay at a hotel in Zhangjiajie city, please take the bus from Zhangjiajie Bus Terminal and get down in Wulingyuan Scenic Area, which costs 14RMB. If you stay at a hotel in Wulingyuan area, it’s very likely that you can walk to the Zhangjiajie National Forest Park.

How long to visit: 2-3 days;


Tips:

1. As a famous tourist spot as Zhangjiajie National Forest, it's easy to imagine how crowded it must be during the holidays or weekends. It's common to wait for over 2 hours just to get on the elevator or sightseeing bus. Come prepared if you visit during a holiday or weekend.
2. Please follow your guide closely as the park is huge and the roads are quite complicated.
3. It's hard to cover every spot of the park, please choose your sight wisely.

4. Prepare some snacks as the tour can be long and energy consuming.
